Introducing the Squarespace Engineering Blog
Today, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of the new Engineering Blog, where you can read about many of the technical issues we work on here at Squarespace. While Squarespace is widely recognized as a leader in the design space, many tend to overlook the incredibly strong engineering culture that supports our sophisticated platform. With more than one million paying customers, Squarespace sites get more than one billion page views every month. Serving such a high amount of traffic comes with unique challenges.
The Engineering Blog will cover everything from the daily life of our engineers to the technical challenges of scaling a Mongo database across multiple data centers. Our infrastructure is fully customized to our stack and comes with a host of challenges, including those associated with large bandwidth and storage requirements. One of our core values is “design is not a luxury”, and this applies not only to the beautiful templates and layouts Squarespace users interact with every day, but also to the design of the software we build.
Just as quickly as our technology has evolved, so too has our team. In 2011, Squarespace had 10 engineers. Today, there are more than 100 engineers working on everything from building an infrastructure that can handle Super Bowl campaigns with millions of site visitors per minute, to creating a single page JavaScript app that can handle our entire website management system.
Squarespace engineers work on amazing projects and solve tough problems using many of the latest technologies guided by our company's core values. Learn how we help people build beautiful online homes by visiting the Squarespace Engineering Blog here.
